Metalsmithing Classes

Layered & Textured Pendant (Beginner)

Learn to use metalsmithing techniques to create a one-of-a-kind pendant. Metal stamps and hammers will be used to texture sterling and copper shapes. Students will also learn to use alphabet stamps to add inspirational words or names. We will also cut holes into the shapes and add jumprings or wire wrap a bail to complete the design. Students will use the silver-black process and steel wool for a brushed antique surface.

Simple Soldered Findings (Beginner) Learn to use a small hand held torch perfect for soldering small pieces. Students will bend, twist, and solder wire to create "S" hook clasps and jump rings. We will also learn to "ball" the ends of wire to make professional headpins and earwires. 3 hours. Riveted Ring In this workshop we will make a textured cold connected, riveted band ring. Metal stamps and hammers will be used to texture the sterling silver sheet. Then students will learn to hammer and form their sheet into a ring. To complete the ring we will learn a cold connection technique known as a tube rivet. Students can also use the liver of sulfur process for a darkened oxidized surface or have the option of applying a matte finish to their ring. CHAINMAILLE CLASSES

Beginning Chainmaille:
Discover the versatility of chainmaille by linking colored jump rings to
make 2 pairs of earrings. The techniques you’ll learn are also useful
for jewelry repair. It’s a good idea to start out with this class if you’ve never done chainmaille or have limited wire experience. Advanced students are welcome to take this class, too. You’ll be able to create your own designs or follow one of the class samples using a variety of colors and sizes not used in any other chainmaille class. 1 hour $22.00 No experience necessary. Intermediate Chainmaille Earrings: Learn the basic Japanese Cross pattern, a diamond motif that looks almost Celtic in origin. Create up to three pairs of earrings by varying color, jump ring sizes, and connection points. Mesh Bracelet: (Beginner)
Ever seen the chain mail used as armor in movies or museums? Chances are, it was European 4-in-1, the "father" of many European chainmaille weaves. In this popular class, you'll use the same pattern to create a slinky bracelet. You'll also learn how to make Rosettes, a simple variation on the Euro 4-1. NEW!!! Illuminated Tunnel: (Advanced) Due to this bracelet’s slinky, centipede-like movement, its owner will not be able to stop playing with it. The bracelet’s interior can be enhanced with brightly colored enameled copper jump rings, which resemble a lighted tunnel as they fill up the center.

Persian I/Foxtail (Intermediate) Learn two ways to create the basic Persian weave, known as Full Persian 6-in-1 (also Foxtail). This round weave looks almost like long strands of woven metal. You’ll learn how to incorporate beads and vary the direction of the weave. Persian II (Intermediate) In this class, you’ll learn how to make two Persian weaves: Half 4-in-1 and Half 3-in-1. These weaves take some time to learn, but the results are absolutely stunning! These weaves make particularly good bracelets for both men and women. NEW!!! Chainmaille Flowers Necklace (Intermediate), two-day class. Coiled wire links take on new dimension in this two-part class. The finished necklace is a beautiful, flowing, and supple creation that could be worn to the most elegant occasion. The first session will be construction of your flower units, using jump rings and bead links. Stringing and Needle Techniques

Beadgirl Boot Camp:
Boot Camp is a one-day intensive jumpstart for your beading skills. You will have the full Basic Stringing Techniques, Beginning Wire, and Intermediate Wire classes, with a 30 minute break between each class. At the end of the day, you can proudly display 3 pairs of earrings and a necklace. Saturdays, 12:00 am-5:30 pm $60.00 (a $75.00 value!) All materials included. Dates: February 13.

Necklaces And Bracelets (BEGINNER):
Do your necklaces keep breaking? Can't seem to figure out how to end it? This is the class for you! We'll teach you about the various bead stringing cords and findings. You'll learn about bead tips, clasps, crimp beads, jump rings, etc. Then you’ll design and create two bracelets or a necklace. This is a great class to teach you the basics of stringing.

A Tutti Frutti For All Seasons: (Beginner)

You don't have to use fruit beads to make a Tutti Frutti necklace. You can make one with top-drilled beads of all sorts. This easy needle technique builds on a base of seed beads to make a bracelet or necklace with different types of dangles. If you can use needle, you can do this. There is a little pre-stringing "homework" before class, so be sure to give yourself some time when you register, and don't forget to bring your glasses to class.

Knotting (Beginner)

Why pay jeweler's prices to restring your necklaces when you can do it yourself! Learn this simple technique for knotting between beads. The class project is a knotted bracelet. When you're finished you'll know how to restring those pearls that have been in your drawer forever, or make something new!

Wire Techniques

Simple Wire Loops:
This is a great starter class! We'll teach you the basic techniques involved to create earrings with head pins, eye pins and ear wires. You'll make two pairs of earrings, one with a linked dangle. All Wired Up

A one-day wire intensive, like Boot Camp for wire only! You will learn simple loops, coiled wire loops, top-drilled wire wraps, how to make hook and eye and “S” hook clasps, earwires, and much, much more to get you started on your journey with wire. (the equivalent of 4 classes!) Instructor: Kate Crofford 5 hours, $65.00, craft wire included, plus materials for 2 pairs of earrings. Students must provide their own top-drilled stones and any clasp embellishment beads they wish to use.

MISC.TECHNIQUES

Soldered Art

Learn to use a soldering iron, lead-free solder, and glass to create custom pendants for your jewelry pieces, ornaments, or wall art. Following simple guidelines, soldering is safe, fun, and easy! You will make one piece in class using papers, stickers, and other good stuff to create a mini-collage ready for bedecking your neck! Tips and techniques for soldering jewelry and other art projects will be given. For the Ornaments class, we will use holiday-themed papers and larger glass to create ornaments for the season!

Resin Pendants (Easy Beginner)
Make your own one-of-a-kind pendant in this fun new class. You can create a small collage, use a photo or dried flowers...whatever you desire! We will guide you through the design of the piece. Then teach you the proper way to use our 2-part epoxy resin. You will make two pendants in the class.

Ten Techniques in Two Hours (AKA 10 IN 2)

This is a perfect way to get your feet wet and try out 10 inking and embossing techniques without buying anything. An experienced crafter that needs a creative kick would also have fun in this class. We'll use Ranger Adirondack and Distress inks, Adirondack acrylic paint dabbers, alcohol inks and embossing powders to ink, stamp, and emboss your way through 10 sample tags, a perfect visual reminder of the techniques you'll learn.
